Member of the Month
This
month, we feature one of our youngest honorary members,
Zac, pictured here with his grandfather Wally. Although we dont
endorse Wallys prescribed teething ring, we just had to include
this picture in our Member of the Month section after seeing how cute
this baby is.
Wally has been a member of our cigar club for almost 2 years. He didnt include a letter with his photo, just this sentence, My grandson Zac even loves your cigars of the month!!!
Well, Wally, were excited that you and your grandson enjoy our cigars and we will be sending you 25 more to enjoy! Just dont let Zac use them all for a teething ring.
SUBMIT YOURSELF OR YOUR GROUP PHOTO FOR CONSIDERATION! And if you're selected, we'll send you a variety pack of 25 hand rolled smokes from past selections! Featured Cigars
Cacique (pronounced "ka-seek") enjoys a loyal following, yet isnt widely known, despite a 90 rating by Cigar Aficionados Insider and high praise from the cigar smoking public. Made by cigar master Pedro Martin, this cigar is a real diamond in the rough.
Cacique is handmade in the Dominican Republic, using a long-filler blend of Nicaraguan Ligero and Dominican Seco leaves, Havana seed binder, and a very attractive Connecticut Shade wrapper. This combination lends the cigar a full flavor, yet remains mild in strength. It is very well-constructed and extensively aged.
A cigar with a pleasant, herbal character and a mild-to-medium body. There are good spicy elements on the palate - a well-made cigar with an oily wrapper. It has a spicy core of flavors.
Cusano Selection Rosado Robusto
The Cusano Selection is a tremendous value that I´ve been smoking for years. It´s actually made by Hendrik Kelner - Davidoff´s cigar guy - in the Dominican Republic, and I tell you it´s a steal. But don´t take my word for it. Rolled with a beautiful shade grown Rosado wrapper - a gorgeous oily leaf - and long-filler from the Dominican Republic. Plus the Connecticut binder is almost the same quality as many wrapped leaves - it´s like smoking a cigar with 2 wrappers! Highly praised by the cigar critics too, SMOKE magazine says: "Very reminiscent of a Cuban cigar Lots of flavorful smoke up front with excellent character and a big finish. The Selection, however, is all that and a little more...the excellent construction and big, big taste without the big, big bite, may force you outdoors while you bum one, but ahhh, what a day you'd be having"
Hoyo De Monterey Excalibur #5 Toro
Excalibur cigars are handmade in Honduras and are the choicest cigars picked from the famous Hoyo de Monterrey line of fine cigars. They are hand-rolled by the same makers as Hoyo De Monterrey. Hoyo De Monterrey Excalibur is made using the top 10% of the factorys tobacco from Honduras and Nicaragua. Hoyos are considered to be one of the finest cigars on the market. They are made with Nicaraguan, Honduran, and Cuban seed Dominican filler and Connecticut binder. Wrapped in beautiful Connecticut Shade wrappers, which gives each and every Excalibur cigar a robust, but exquisitely smooth taste. This full-flavored brand is dubbed the "espresso of cigars" because of its famously rich, strong, and creamy smoke. Perfect draw, burns straight as a ruler, stays firm, lovely aroma, nice with a coffee or a beer, an honest, good cigar.
Jose Llopis Gold Connecticut Shade Pyramide
Jose Llopis was a high-priced boom cigar from the mid-90s. It is a handmade cigar from the Republic of Panama. Our panel members were genuinely surprised at how mild, smooth and pleasant this monster-sized pyramid is. Its rolled with a Dominican binder and a complex long-filler blend of Dominican, Panamanian, and Honduran leaves, but the most striking thing is the gorgeous Connecticut shade wrapper. The wrapper leaf appears flawless, with a silky smooth feel. The cigar has been aged for over 4 years, and the cellophane shows evidence of that - some even have that nice, slight yellowing. Overall, this ones a good, mild surprise, and the draw is smooth and easy.
Jose Marti Cedro Tubos Churchill
This box is gorgeous. Each individually packaged in beautiful solid cedar tubes and packed 10 cigars per box with a clear top. Although we had to remove them from these tubes so that we could ship them to you. The cedar tubes were so big, we couldnt fit them in the shipping tubes! These Churchills are rolled in Nicaragua and offer a spicy, medium to full-bodied taste. Ecuadorian-grown, Sumatra-seed wrapper, Nicaraguan binder, and interesting filler combination consisting of Dominican, Honduran, and Nicaraguan long leaves.
Ask Murl
Dear Murl,
Although you send me more than one cigar from a manufacturer, Im often surprised at how different one cigar is from the next when its a different shape. Dont they all come from the same tobacco blend? Shouldnt they be identical for the most part?

Yo Jakester!
So its the age old question of does size really matter, eh? Never been a concern of mine, you know, being hung like a well, a dog. But thats a whole different subject, and one that most likely has a very limited scope of truly interested readers. So lets talk. Even though some of the cigars we send you are from the same manufacturer, most are of varied taste profiles for a number of reasons. Size does matter, Bucko. Larger gauges tend to smoke cooler. Length may impact the ease of the draw. You should also remember that each cigar is individually rolled which means there will always be subtle differences in how each smokes.
Additionally, when a specific blend is used for a larger gauged cigar, all of the same types of leaves used in that blend may not be in a smaller ring cigar as there is simply not enough room. Generally, when some portion of the blend is left out, it is the ligero, or the more full-bodied leaf types. So the next time youre pontificating on the subject of size and how it impacts the overall pleasure of partaking in any of your favorite vices, you tell em, You bet your Kibbles and Bits it matters, Baby! Hope that was good for you, Jakaroo. Ive Gotta ball I need to be chasin.
Woof!
Murl.
