The Padilla La Terraza Maduro was named after a bar in the famous fishing village of Cojimar, Cuba. After a long day’s work, locals and fisherman would gather at the famous bar La Terraza to drink, relax, and smoke some cigars. This restaurant was visited by Ernest Hemingway and is considered to be a tourist attraction as well as a favorite by the locals. Master blender Ernesto Padilla has created quite a stir with this blend that features a Nicaraguan Habano wrapper with Nicaraguan binder and long leaf fillers. Starting with an earth and tea core, over the course of the smoke you will start to get notes of cocoa, coffee, pepper, leather, and some hints of cloves. The finish will be long and smooth featuring the tea and earth core with some hints of spices. The name is perfect for this cigar as it is well suited for any time of day you need to sit down and relax with a drink and smoke. We found ourselves relaxing with a dirty martini after a long day at the office.
The Nicaraguan cigar industry originated when Cuban cigar makers escaped the revolution and re-established their livelihood in Nicaragua with Cuban-seed tobacco. Blessed with dark, rich soil, their new home was ideal for tobacco cultivation and Nicaragua quickly became known for cigars that rivaled Cuban quality. Unfortunately, revolution and war came to Nicaragua in the 1980s and devastated the industry, but it’s rebounded dramatically and is once again producing tobacco considered by many to be the finest in the world. The Esteli Valley is in many ways the heart of Nicaraguan production and is known for its very powerful and spicy tobacco. The Jalapa Valley produces arguably the finest tobacco in the country: somewhat sweeter and less intense than Esteli, but extremely complex. The tobacco of the Condega Valley is often described as a blend of the other two regions.
