La Palina El Diario is a highly regarded, medium-to-full bodied cigar crafted at the renowned Raices Cubanas factory in Honduras. It features a Honduran rosado wrapper over a Honduran binder and a blend of well-aged Nicaraguan Corojo and Criollo long-fillers. From the first draw, El Diario delivers a bold and complex profile. Notes of spice, leather, and earth lead the way, followed by layers of mocha and toasted nuts. The smoke is rich and full, yet balanced, with a steady evolution of flavors that keeps the experience engaging throughout. The construction is excellent, producing a consistent burn and a satisfying draw that allows the cigar’s complexity to shine. This cigar pairs well with a structured red wine like Buena Vista Chateau Napa Valley Cabernet, whose depth and tannins complement the cigar’s richness and spice. It has received significant acclaim, including a 93 rating from Cigar Aficionado and an impressive panel rating of 96, highlighting its quality and craftsmanship. El Diario stands out as a refined yet powerful cigar, offering a layered, premium smoking experience that appeals to those who appreciate bold, complex profiles.
Honduras has been a tobacco growing and cigar manufacturing area for hundreds of years, but it was the Communist revolution in Cuba that really put Honduras on the map. In the 1960s, many Cuban cigar makers fled their homeland and arrived in Honduras to re-establish their way of life. The immigrants took advantage of the climate, soil, and geography, which were well-suited to tobacco growing, and began producing high quality cigars. The center of the Honduran cigar industry is the city of Danli and the nearby Jamastran Valley. The majority of the world’s pure Corojo tobacco is grown here, now that Cuba has stopped production of this iconic, spicy, and rich variety in favor of Corojo hybrids. Other important areas of Honduran cigar production include the Talanga Valley, Copan, and Trojes.
