This cigar is made at the well established Victor Sinclair factory in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Jose Dominguez is the owner and master blender there and this stogie is aptly named his signature blend because he created it for his own enjoyment. Dual wrapper leaves of Ecuador Connecticut and Connecticut Broadleaf not only add complexity but also make this smoke aesthetically a knockout! Underneath is a wonderful combination of Connecticut Broadleaves, Pennsylvania Broadleaves, and Habano secured by a Dominican binder. This high-end cigar produces thick clouds of smoke with each draw. Its mellow to medium-bodied and you’ll find notes of sweet cedar, cashew, and baked bread, with some hints of leather when you get into the Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. To make this smoke even more special, you’ll be hard pressed to find this cigar anywhere with the exception of a few brick and mortar stores, but very, very few. In fact, this smoke can’t be found anywhere online except for us! Pair this smoke with your favorite merlot.

Though tobacco is indigenous to Hispaniola, the tobacco industry in the Dominican Republic existed in the shadow of Cuba’s dominance through the 1960s. When the exodus of Cuban cigar makers began in the wake of the revolution, many decided the Dominican Republic would be ideal for the resumption of their livelihoods. Unrest in Nicaragua in the 1980s fueled the Dominican cigar industry further. The country now makes more than half of the premium cigars imported into the U.S.

The Cibao Valley and the nearby city of Santiago are the center of cigar production in the Dominican Republic. Three main varieties are grown here: the mild and native Olor Dominicano; the intense Piloto Cubano, brought from the Vuelta Abajo of Cuba; and San Vicente, a milder and more acidic Piloto hybrid. Dominican puros were once unheard of as it was widely thought impossible to grow quality wrapper leaf on the island, but new growing techniques are now allowing some exceptional puros to be produced.
