One look at this attractive dual-colored stogie with its barber pole stripes and you know you're in for a unique treat. "Dos Capas" translates loosely as "two capes," referring to the two Grade A wrappers that cloak it. The light one is a silky Connecticut shade, the dark one, a rich, oily Sumatran number. They encase an extensively aged blend of Dominican long-leaf tobaccos. The result is a medium-bodied smoke with a range of taste sensations. With two contrasting wrappers, it's no surprise that there are earthy and woody notes – which aren't really mild, but aren't really full, either. Together they produce a complex taste that's even on the palate. Once the first few inches become a solid, well-layered gray ash, the flavor morphs into a big, warm tobacco taste that reminds us why we love stogies. Panelists found the burn surprisingly even, given two different wrappers. Have it with either a dark rum or your favorite bourbon.
