Despite the name, the Crowned Heads Broadway Robusto Extra has nothing to do with New York theater lights and everything to do with Nashville soul. Crowned Heads has built its reputation on blending cigars with personality, storytelling, and a rebellious streak that separates them from more traditional cigar companies. Founded by former CAO executives, the company quickly gained cult status for creating boutique blends inspired by music, culture, and their hometown roots. Broadway pays tribute to the famous street in downtown Nashville, and much like the city itself, this cigar is bold, lively, and packed with character.

The Broadway Robusto Extra features a dark and oily Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and fillers sourced from Estelí, Jalapa, and Ometepe. That combination creates a medium-to-full-bodied smoke loaded with rich espresso, cedar, earth, baking spices, and soft black pepper. The Broadleaf wrapper brings a natural sweetness that balances the cigar’s deeper earthy tones beautifully, while the shorter robusto extra format keeps the flavors concentrated and intense from start to finish.

The suggested pairing of Mexican hot chocolate is surprisingly perfect. The creamy cocoa, cinnamon spice, and slight chili warmth elevate the cigar’s espresso and pepper notes in a way that feels indulgent without being over the top. The Nicaraguan cigar industry originated when Cuban cigar makers escaped the revolution and re-established their livelihood in Nicaragua with Cuban-seed tobacco. Blessed with dark, rich soil, their new home was ideal for tobacco cultivation and Nicaragua quickly became known for cigars that rivaled Cuban quality. Unfortunately, revolution and war came to Nicaragua in the 1980s and devastated the industry, but it’s rebounded dramatically and is once again producing tobacco considered by many to be the finest in the world.

The Esteli Valley is in many ways the heart of Nicaraguan production and is known for its very powerful and spicy tobacco. The Jalapa Valley produces arguably the finest tobacco in the country: somewhat sweeter and less intense than Esteli, but extremely complex. The tobacco of the Condega Valley is often described as a blend of the other two regions.
