J.C. Newman has been crafting cigars since 1895, and the Brick House line has been a fan favorite for decades. The Double Connecticut version takes that heritage and dials things into a smoother, more mellow experience. This Robusto is made in Nicaragua and features a Connecticut Shade wrapper, Connecticut Broadleaf binder, and Nicaraguan fillers. It’s a mild cigar, but don’t mistake that for boring—it’s loaded with flavor. Expect creamy notes of toast and sweet cedar, with a smooth, mellow finish that makes it incredibly easy to enjoy. It’s the kind of cigar you reach for when you want something relaxing but still flavorful. Pair it with a crisp Sauvignon Blanc, like Sinegal Estate, and you’ve got a refreshing combo. The wine’s bright acidity cuts through the creaminess, enhancing the cigar’s subtle sweetness. Easygoing, flavorful, and highly rated—this is a perfect everyday cigar that still feels special.
The Nicaraguan cigar industry originated when Cuban cigar makers escaped the revolution and re-established their livelihood in Nicaragua with Cuban-seed tobacco. Blessed with dark, rich soil, their new home was ideal for tobacco cultivation and Nicaragua quickly became known for cigars that rivaled Cuban quality. Unfortunately, revolution and war came to Nicaragua in the 1980s and devastated the industry, but it’s rebounded dramatically and is once again producing tobacco considered by many to be the finest in the world.
The Esteli Valley is in many ways the heart of Nicaraguan production and is known for its very powerful and spicy tobacco. The Jalapa Valley produces arguably the finest tobacco in the country: somewhat sweeter and less intense than Esteli, but extremely complex. The tobacco of the Condega Valley is often described as a blend of the other two regions.
