We love when a new cigar comes our way; we love it even more when it’s packed with flavor and the construction is flawless. The Varina Farms Breakfast Blend is just that, brand new, packed with flavor, and just looks awesome. Debuting about four months ago, the first thing that you will notice with this cigar is the beautiful custom tissue wrapper that not only helps to protect the cigar but also adds that extra something. The Varina Farms Breakfast Blend starts with a beautiful Connecticut Shade wrapper that was actually grown in Connecticut, USA. With that being said, most companies will grow their Connecticut Shades in Ecuador due to price increases in the USA. Underneath there is a tantalizing mix of Nicaraguan, Honduran, and Dominican long-fillers that are well-aged and rich. This combination will give you the creamy and smooth qualities that you would expect from a Connecticut cigar but the Breakfast Blend has a little more body and more importantly, a lot more flavor and richness. This mild and creamy cigar has notes of tobacco, oak, pepper, coffee, and that ever-so-important sweetness on the finish. One member of the cigar panel even reported that they got ‘fresh baked county biscuits’ from the aroma! While this cigar is mild enough to start your day with a cuppa joe, we had ours later in the day with a lowland scotch. In other words, its perfect for anytime of day!

Honduras has been a tobacco growing and cigar manufacturing area for hundreds of years, but it was the Communist revolution in Cuba that really put Honduras on the map. In the 1960s, many Cuban cigar makers fled their homeland and arrived in Honduras to re-establish their way of life. The immigrants took advantage of the climate, soil, and geography, which were well-suited to tobacco growing, and began producing high quality cigars. The center of the Honduran cigar industry is the city of Danli and the nearby Jamastran Valley. The majority of the world’s pure Corojo tobacco is grown here, now that Cuba has stopped production of this iconic, spicy, and rich variety in favor of Corojo hybrids. Other important areas of Honduran cigar production include the Talanga Valley, Copan, and Trojes.
