The Room 101 Farce Connecticut Super Toro is a smooth operator, hand-rolled at Tabacalera William Ventura in the Dominican Republic. Masterminded by Matt Booth, this cigar is his fresh take on a Connecticut shade classic. Wrapped in a silky Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf, it features a mystery binder and a rich blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. The result? A medium-bodied cigar with surprising depth and nuance. From the first draw, expect layers of sweet cream, toasted almond, hay, soft white pepper, and just a touch of citrus zest. It’s mellow but never boring—perfect construction, razor-sharp burn, and a slow, creamy evolution of flavor all the way through. This cigar is refined without trying too hard. Pair it with a chilled glass of Composition 2023 Chardonnay. The wine’s bright acidity and notes of pear, lemon curd, and soft oak round out the cigar’s creaminess and enhance its nutty, citrus undertones. It's a classy combo that feels both relaxed and refined—ideal for an afternoon on the patio or an early evening unwind.

Though tobacco is indigenous to Hispaniola, the tobacco industry in the Dominican Republic existed in the shadow of Cuba’s dominance through the 1960s. When the exodus of Cuban cigar makers began in the wake of the revolution, many decided the Dominican Republic would be ideal for the resumption of their livelihoods. Unrest in Nicaragua in the 1980s fueled the Dominican cigar industry further. The country now makes more than half of the premium cigars imported into the U.S.

The Cibao Valley and the nearby city of Santiago are the center of cigar production in the Dominican Republic. Three main varieties are grown here: the mild and native Olor Dominicano; the intense Piloto Cubano, brought from the Vuelta Abajo of Cuba; and San Vicente, a milder and more acidic Piloto hybrid. Dominican puros were once unheard of as it was widely thought impossible to grow quality wrapper leaf on the island, but new growing techniques are now allowing some exceptional puros to be produced.
