Dunhill is brand that you may have heard of through their full line of luxury gentlemen’s accessories and pipes, but not necessarily for their cigars which have flown way under the radar. The brand has a rich history; Alfred Dunhill opened his first cigar shop in London in 1907, which had numerous marketing and selling rights from various Cuban manufacturers, including several exclusive cigars from top cigar makers such as Romeo y Julieta and Montecristo. Over the years, Alfred Dunhill began to gain notoriety and became the tobacconist of choice for Sir Winston Churchill – who even stored his private collection in the store’s humidor – and even King George VI! In the 1980s they produced their first cigar under the name Dunhill and today their cigars continue to impress.

The Heritage by Dunhill was conceived to celebrate Dunhill’s rich history and is also the first full bodied cigar to come out of the Dunhill brand. This tasty treat was handcrafted at General Cigar Company’s Honduras factory, STG Danlí, and has a hearty blend of long-fillers from Ometepe and Esteli, Nicaragua and the Jamastran Valley, Honduras that is secured with a Nicaraguan Jalapa binder and finished with a stunning Ecuadoran Habano ligero wrapper. Medium to full-bodied in strength, this flavor bomb first hits the palate with spice and pepper followed by flavors of graham cracker, cocoa, coffee, and cedar. Not only does this cigar have a rating of 93 from Cigar Aficionado, it also was selected as a top 25 cigar in 2015. Pair it with a bourbon.

Honduras has been a tobacco growing and cigar manufacturing area for hundreds of years, but it was the Communist revolution in Cuba that really put Honduras on the map. In the 1960s, many Cuban cigar makers fled their homeland and arrived in Honduras to re-establish their way of life. The immigrants took advantage of the climate, soil, and geography, which were well-suited to tobacco growing, and began producing high quality cigars. The center of the Honduran cigar industry is the city of Danli and the nearby Jamastran Valley. The majority of the world’s pure Corojo tobacco is grown here, now that Cuba has stopped production of this iconic, spicy, and rich variety in favor of Corojo hybrids. Other important areas of Honduran cigar production include the Talanga Valley, Copan, and Trojes.
