Two Stogies In Custody!
As
a newcomer to Cigar of the Month, I am most pleased with the quality
and condition of the cigars I've gotten. My wife presented me with
my membership as a Christmas present, knowing that it would be the
perfect gift for me.
I particularly like the fact that I no longer have to put up with stale, dried out stogies. Every shipment I've received from Cigar of the Month has been fresh as a daisy.
Here are a couple of pics taken after a hard day of fighting crime in Malverne, NY. I'm the handsome devil on the right. The grizzled veteran next to me is my Sergeant. As you can see, we both enjoy unwinding with a good smoke.
Thanks and keep up the fine work.
Sincerely,
Jason Moss

Featured Cigars
Astral Talanga Valley Selection Robusto
The
Astral brand is a highly recognized and praised brand, known for its
mild-to-medium body. The Talanga Valley Selection is handmade in,
where else… Honduras' beautiful Talanga Valley. This Robusto is the
newest addition to the Astral line and is still made in very small
quantities. The beautiful, sun-grown Cuban-seed wrapper is harvested
only from the top of the plant, which results in a dark, oily wrapper
with lots of flavor. We found the draw good, the burn perfect and
plenty of smoke in this well-aged Honduran. Look for a somewhat sweet
woody earthy quality complemented with a hint of nuttiness. Note a
pleasant cedar aroma and spicy woody finish. Overall, a great smoke
any time of day that would be complemented nicely with an oaky chardonnay.
The
Monte Carlo line of cigars is manufactured by the same makers of the
Camacho and Baccarat brands of cigars. This is a very limited edition
cigar; with only 2,000 boxes being released this year! This Corona
is handmade using a Jamastran wrapper and a complex blend of Habano-seed
long fillers. Look for a very smooth, mild to medium-bodied tasting
cigar with s light, spicy character, with some earthy tones evident.
The aftertaste was a mild and somewhat spicy experience. Consider
pairing it with a single malt scotch or an XO cognac.
Macanudo Hyde Park Natural Toro
Macanudo
cigars are produced by the General Cigar Company. They have been producing
fine cigars, such as Bolivar, Cifuentas, Cohiba, Partagas, and Punch,
among others, since 1848. The meaning of "macanudo" in Spanish is
"best of the best," or "first-rate." The filler is from the Dominican
Republic and Mexico that is wrapped up inside a Connecticut shade
wrapper. Note a very pleasing flavor with hints of cinnamon and spice.
Flavors and aromas emerged that were reminiscent of creamed coffee
and white oak. The flavor and balance was impeccable. Overall, this
is an excellent cigar. Smoke it with a full tawny Port.
Oliveros Gold Tubos - Kelt Cognac Double Corona
Oliveros
Perez, originally from Spain and founder of Oliveros Cigars, began
his cigar-manufacturing career in Cuba in 1927. In 1962, Oliveros
left Cuba after the communist takeover of the nation, but he took
with him selected premium tobacco seeds from his own crop to continue
his work. Those seeds were then planted in the Dominican Republic.
This Double Corona is constructed with a blend of long filler, Cuban
seed Dominican and Brazilian leaves with a Connecticut shade wrapper.
Look for a subtle, well aged flavor that comes from the cigar being
infused with the aroma of Kelt Cognac. Consider pairing it with a
single malt scotch or what else, Kelt cognac.
Sancho Panza Caballero Double Corona
The
recent winner of General Cigar Co.'s Election 2003 for "the best value-priced,
full-bodied premium cigar in America." This box-pressed double corona
is handmade under the direction of Estelo Padrón, Hoyo de Monterrey's
cigar master. The Sancho Panza Caballero is made with Cuban-seed filler,
with a Connecticut Broadleaf binder, and is wrapped with a Connecticut
Shade wrapper. We found it to be a medium to full bodied smoke, providing
lots of rich tobacco flavor, with hints of pepper, nuts, and leather.
Look for an easy draw with a spicy, pleasing aroma up front. Consider
pairing it with a semi-sweet, woody port or robust, roasted Porter.
