Member of the Month
Dusty, Lucky, and Ned Reunited Again!
The
attachment is a photo taken after receiving a membership to the cigar
of the month club. A gift given at Christmas from my sister in law.
After receiving the newsletter and seeing the photo on it, we wanted
to add our two cents as well.
We have affectionately called it "Three amigo's" and forwarding it for review of your next publication of Cigar of the month.
Thank you,
Edward E. Dent

Featured Cigars
Napa Reserve by H. Upmann Corona
Founded
in 1844 by Herman Upmann, a German banker, the brand was originally
rolled in Cuba and then distributed by Mr. Upmann to his best customers
as a promotion. Later, it became one of the most popular Cuban brands
smoked in the world. Today, both the Cuban and Dominican versions
are some of the most recognizable and highly rated cigars in the world.
The Dominican version featured this month is an extra smooth, medium
bodied cigar with a golden-brown, Connecticut shade wrapper and 3-year
aged long leaf blend of Dominican and Brazilian fillers. This Napa
Reserve Corona offers a creamy, delicious flavor with a bold and nutty
character. Look for a smooth and lasting finish. Overall, a very enjoyable
smoke. Consider pairing this one with a single malt scotch or brandy.
The
Felipe Gregorio line of cigars has come a long way since its rocky
beginnings. The owner of this line, Philip Wynne, was born and raised
in Switzerland and is the son of an American Foreign Service officer.
Because he grew up in an area where Cuban cigars were legal, when
he decided to get into the cigar business, he wanted to produce cigars
similar to the many Cuban brands he grew up with…strong. At that time,
Americans weren't used to strong cigars and so his first brand, Petrus,
did not sell well in the States, but did do well in Europe and the
Middle East. It was re-released in 2000 with a blend of aged Dominican
Piloto Cubana and Brazilian Mata Fina tobaccos wrapped up with a beautiful
dark Cameroon wrapper. This newer Petrus version is a bit toned down
when compared to the original and has a subtle, but rich, satisfying
flavor that really comes through near the finish. Look for a complex
flavor comprised of rich spices, toasted caramel and leathery tones.
Consider pairing it with a hoppy pale ale or just with a cup of coffee
to start the day off.
Savinelli Nicaraguan Reserve #2 Churchill
The
Savinelli Nicaraguan Reserve Maduro is handmade in Esteli, Nicaragua.
Unlike most maduros, this cigar does not have a jet black wrapper;
instead, it offers a unique medium brown, Habano seed Corojo wrapper.
This Churchill is naturally fermented and cured, which gives this
cigar it's smooth, attractive, and relatively thick textured wrapper.
This box pressed bad boy is a Nicaraguan Puro composed entirely of
premium Nicaraguan long filler tobaccos. Look for a medium to full
bodied smoke with a bit of a floral character. We found the flavor
to be identifiably Nicaraguan, note a dense, earthy flavor with a
relatively light sweetness. The finish is relatively mild and doesn't
hang around too long. We'd suggest you pair it up with a Porfidio
Anejo Margarita on the rocks.
Trilogy Authentic Corojo Robusto
Alec
Bradley is the mastermind behind the Trilogy. This is a triangle pressed
shaped robusto that just wants to stay in your hand. It's the perfect
shape for smoking. Just like the name depicts, this Corojo Robusto
is one of a series of three cigars, which also includes the Native
Cameroon and the Exotic Maduro. The Authentic Corojo is a beautifully
rich and deep dark burgundy-brown color. It obtains this color from
the authentic first generation Cuban Corojo tobacco. Look for a medium
bodied smoke with lots of flavor and complexity, including hints of
pepper, an herbal earthiness, and coffee followed up with a dry, woody
aftertaste. Overall, a fantastic cigar. Tremendously rich, bold, and
packed with flavor. Consider pairing it with a single malt scotch
or an XO cognac.
Cacique Family Martin Box-Pressed Robusto
Cacique
(pronounced "ka-seek") enjoys a loyal following, yet isn't widely
known, despite a 90 rating by Cigar Aficionados Insider and high praise
from the cigar smoking public. Made by cigar master Pedro Martin,
this cigar is a real diamond in the rough. Cacique is handmade in
the Dominican Republic, using a long-filler blend of Nicaraguan Ligero
and Dominican Seco leaves, Havana seed binder, and a very attractive
Connecticut Shade wrapper. This combination lends the cigar a full
flavor, yet remains mild in strength. It is very well-constructed
and extensively aged. A cigar with a pleasant, herbal character and
a mild-to-medium body. There are good spicy elements on the palate
- a well-made cigar with an oily wrapper. It has a spicy core of flavors.
The aftertaste was a mild and somewhat spicy experience. We'd suggest
pairing it with your favorite Pale Ale or Chardonnay.
