Member of the Month
Captain Bob Fires up a Torpedo of his own at Sea!
The
gift that keeps on giving - Cigar of the Month Club! I was given a
three month membership by my daughter for Father's Day. Every month
when my cigars arrived, I raved to my wife about how much I enjoyed
trying the different types of cigars and the information about each
cigar that is provided with every shipment. Imagine my amazement and
pleasure when my gift membership was completed, yet the cigars continued
to arrive. Unknown to me, my wife had continued my membership, a surprise
gift for no reason other than my enjoyment. This truly is a gift that
keeps on giving.
I live for weekends and vacations when I can relax and enjoy a martini and one of your fine cigars. This picture was taken on a cruise almost a year ago. There is nothing better than kicking back, enjoying the sounds and sights of the ship at sea and completely relaxing with a good cigar. Even though we often sail to ports where Cuban cigars are plentiful, the freshness and variety does not even come close to the cigars I receive from your club.
You have a fan for life. Keep up the good work.
Sincerely,
Bob Woldridge

Featured Cigars
Originally manufactured exclusively in Cuba, the Fonseca brand is now also produced in the Dominican Republic. The line was originally rolled with Cameroon wrappers, but now sports the lighter, milder, Connecticut shade. Mexican binders are combined with Cuban-seed Dominican fillers in an extremely well-made Robusto that offers a truly mild smoking experience. Look for a dry woody character, hints of coffee and spice that picks up as you get into the cigar. Note a very pleasant woody aroma and a dry finish that doesn't linger. Consider pairing it with a strong cup of Jo if you take it on in the morning or a slightly hoppy American Pale Ale if you're firing it up…say…after 10 am!
Industrial Press Brickk by Drew Estate
Robusto
The Industrial Press Brickk recently scored an 88 in Cigar Aficionado magazine, out-ranking such brands as Romeo y Julieta, AVO, and Davidoff. This handsome box-pressed robusto is handmade in Esteli, Nicaragua. . The rich complex flavor originates from the sun-grown Ecuadorian wrapper. Look for a slow, cool burn with pleasant earthy flavors evident. We also picked up a bit of coconut, wood, and spice. Note a slightly toasty finish with a hint of nuts. Overall, this is a very impressive smoke, packed with flavor! A dry Martini, a good Cognac, or fine Armagnac would all go quite well with this cigar.
Partagas Almirante Double Corona
In Pre-Castro Cuba, Partagas cigars were made in Havana under the direction of Ramon Cifuentes and his father before him. Cifuentes moved to Santiago, Dominican Republic soon after Castro arrived on the scene, and continued to make the Partagas line there. This Dominican version features a spicy Cameroon wrapper and a blend of Dominican and Mexican tobaccos for the filler. The binder comes from the San Andres Valley in Mexico. Note a sharp looking cigar with a dark, rough feel. Look for a mild start that quickly picks up steam and builds to a full-bodied, spicy smoke. Try pairing it with your favorite Scotch or Czechoslovakian Pilsner.
Signature Collection Diablo Figurado
Another excellent cigar from Nick Perdomo. This beautiful Figurado is handmade in Esteli, Nicaragua using a Cuban Criolli '99 Nicaraguan shade-grown wrapper. We found it to be a mild-to-medium-bodied smoke with a light and pleasant aftertaste. It builds in strength about halfway through and offers an incredible depth of delightful, earthy, robust and somewhat spicy flavors. Its effortless draw fills the room with billowing clouds of thicksmoke. Consider smoking it with a traditional Bavarian Hefeweizen beer. To quote Señor Perdomo, "this is a kick-ass mild cigar!"
Viejo '98 Toro by Puros Indios
The Puros Indios Cigar Factory, run by Rolando Reyes, Sr., is located in Danli, Honduras. With over 60 years of cigar making experience, you could say he knows a thing or two about making the perfect cigar. The Viejo '98 Toro combines Dominican and Nicaraguan long leaf filler leaves with a very tasty Jamaican filler leaf. Aged for four years, we found this mild-to-medium-bodied cigar to have a perfect draw and a nutty, floral aroma. Look for a rich, nutty body with traces of woodiness. Consider pairing this one with a smooth, sweet Jamaican Rum drink.
