Indian Tabac cigars were the original brand by Rocky Patel that debuted in 1996 at the RTDA (Retail Tobacco Dealers of America) in Cincinnati, Ohio and it was geared with the cigar aficionado in mind. In 2002, the Indian Tabac Cigar Company changed its name to the now well-known Rocky Patel Premium Cigars but kept the Indian Tabac cigars as a prominent line in the company. In total, the Rocky Patel brand produces over 20 million cigars with quality and value remaining the top priority. Rocky Patel himself is quoted on his webpage as saying “cigar manufacturing is an art form that has transcended over generations.” The Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Natural is no exception to that statement; this handmade box pressed cigar is blended with Costa Rican, Nicaraguan, and Honduran long fillers that have been aged for four years, which will give the cigar a rich and creamy cloud of white smoke. It is then bound with a Nicaraguan binder and carefully wrapped in a Honduran Cuban-Seed Corojo. The construction of this cigar can only be described as superb and it will allow for an excellent draw and a good even burn that can hold up to a two inch ash. Upon light-up, this medium-bodied cigar offers hints of cocoa and coffee, and as the burn progresses, more complex flavors of leather, wood, and hints of pepper develop and remain through the rest of the smoke. Interestingly enough, we find that a nice cold Dr. Pepper is a perfect complement to this cigar.
Honduras has been a tobacco growing and cigar manufacturing area for hundreds of years, but it was the Communist revolution in Cuba that really put Honduras on the map. In the 1960s, many Cuban cigar makers fled their homeland and arrived in Honduras to re-establish their way of life. The immigrants took advantage of the climate, soil, and geography, which were well-suited to tobacco growing, and began producing high quality cigars. The center of the Honduran cigar industry is the city of Danli and the nearby Jamastran Valley. The majority of the world’s pure Corojo tobacco is grown here, now that Cuba has stopped production of this iconic, spicy, and rich variety in favor of Corojo hybrids. Other important areas of Honduran cigar production include the Talanga Valley, Copan, and Trojes.
